Baby Bedding: Choosing a themeChoosing your child’s bedding is usually one of the most important steps of a child’s bedroom, it can enhance both the color scheme, and the theme that you have selected for your child’s room. Generally speaking a floral print can work for nearly any girl’s room, while a blue chambray will fit with most boy’s theme rooms as well. Otherwise as stated above, you can use your child’s bedding as a focal point in the room; choosing sheets in the color scheme you have selected, while allowing the comforter to be a bit more decorative IE: If you have selected a castle theme you may wish to select a comforter with a castle, dragon, prince, or princess on it; which will help to show off your child’s theme. Remember, it is important to give your child a place in their room to display their accomplishments. From artwork, collections, and projects; it is possible to get away with simple well placed shelves, that can display their finest work. Or, my personal favorite is placing a cork board on the wall; and tacking ribbons on the board which will allow your child to slip their project into place, without having to put holes in it. While shelves and cork boards may give your child some room, it is still important to save plenty of room to store old or future clothing, books, toys, games, projects, hobby supplies, and all of your infant necessities such as diapers, wipes, butt paste, etc. Depending on your child’s age this can also include a desk for a computer, or school work as well; for this reason it is important to make sure that your storage items are at least within the same color pallet as your theme. Along these same lines, you will also want to create a fun and enhancing window treatment, that can help spread your theme throughout the room. You may also choose to change the hardware on doors, drawers, and cabinets to continue this theme. One of the best rules to follow for a theme or coordinated room, is to repeat each color, fabric, and print in some form or another; in at least three places within the room. If you do this, chances are everything can pull together in a beautiful new bedroom for your child. A few tips of the trade would have to be; that safety should be of primary consideration, while you are selecting items for your child’s room. Like many things, this will depend on your child’s age. For a child who is of infant or toddler age, you should always keep electrical cords out of the way, and use non-skid pads under any decorative area rugs that you may use, remember you shouldn’t stack storage units too high; as they can pose a hazard to your child. You should use coordinating colors in all elements of your child’s room, which will bring even the most unlike items together to support your child’s theme or color scheme. While your child should enjoy their room now, it is important to use a common background color when you are decorating your child’s room; this provides a longer lasting paint in your child’s room. Which will save you money in the long run, when your child asks for a change of pace. You should use different but similar patterns for your child’s items, that will coordinate well; and help to strengthen your child’s theme. Also, the use of inexpensive framed art such as your child’s own artwork, or creating collages out of books or magazines can help to create a fun and unique atmosphere.
