Baby car seatsOnce you have decided to add a little life to your home, you have committed to not only raising a child; but keeping them safe as well. One of the first items on your pre-baby shopping list, should be an infant car seat. You may be saying to yourself “Well, I won’t need one until the infant is born”, while this is true; just keep in mind that most hospitals have now adopted a new policy. These hospitals require that a child safety seat be purchased and installed in a vehicle, prior to releasing the child from the hospital. However, that isn’t the only reason to have a child car seat handy on the day that your infant is born. A car seat very well could save your child’s life some day. You may be asking, how do I know which one is the right child safety seat? Well, while there are many different varieties of brands, sizes, and shapes to choose from; it is important that you pay close attention to the guidelines that were created by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Looking up statistics, manufacturer reports, and even consumer reports can help you to choose the right car seat for you and your child. One thing to keep in the front of your mind, is that your child will go through several different types of car seats. This is simply due to the fact that an infant car seat is specially designed for infants anywhere from birth to three months, or from birth to six to nine months. While after this stage you should get much more use out of the next car seat purchase. Generally the next step will last from six months to three years of age. For this reason, it is always good to place both car seats on your baby gift registry in hopes that someone will gift them to you. However, if you choose to do this; you will still need to put out some effort on research, prior to selecting which one you want on the list. After you have made this important purchase, there is still a couple more steps you should follow. While proper set up and installation in your car is important, many parents don’t install their car seats properly. For this reason, most local fire stations have been trained in how to safely install car seats; and often hold free lessons and checks annually. Once this has been completed, you should then register your child’s car seat. Most manufacturers will have included a registration card with the car seat. All you have to do, is fill out the form and mail it back in. While this step is often skipped by most parents, it is by far one of the most important. The reason being that; if there is ever a defect with your car seat, they are required by law to notify you of any problems. They are also required to either ship replacement parts, or to replace the car seat free of charge. Related information topics:Gifts for new moms |
