Baby jewelryWhile many mothers like to dress their new infant girls to the t’s with jewelry, whether it be having their ears pierced, or simply purchasing a bracelet or necklace. You should keep in mind that despite the cute appeal of an infant girl wearing jewelry is nearly impossible to avoid, some of the potential dangers should be looked upon prior to accessorizing your child from toe to nose with her own jewelry. One of the most common jewelry pieces for infants is earrings. It is fairly common for parents to pierce their child’s ears at birth, or shortly there after. While they look very adorable with pierced ears, there are some dangers to having your infant’s ears pierced. While there are some relatively safe methods of infant ear piercing out there, they will never be risk-free as you are giving an infection the perfect place to start. If you have decided to get your child’s ears pierced, asking their pediatrician to preform the piercing is always the perfect way to start. You should steer clear of any mall-based piercing stations, as their equipment is neither meant for infant piercing or able to be sterilized properly. Once you have gotten your child’s ears pierced you should check daily for any signs of infection. If you have decided to pierce your child’s ears, you should also make sure the earring backs fit snugly, and cannot be pulled out by your infant to pose a choking hazard. Most infant girls do look rather adorable with a baby style necklace or bracelet; however it is always important to do your research prior to obtaining one. There are not only risks of strangulation if the jewelry isn’t properly fitted to your child’s body; or if you allow your child to sleep with her jewelry on. There is also a risk of lead poisoning. While many companies that produce infant jewelry that is lead-free, some may not be so careful. As you have already noticed, children love to put things in their mouths; so lead and small pieces should be avoided at all costs. Despite the inability to stop an infant from pulling or chewing on her jewelry; there are a few companies that have decided to take the road less traveled when it came to jewelry. Some have gotten their necklaces approved by the FDA as safe for infants to chew on, without causing a choking hazard or possible damage to budding teeth. While these somewhat simple necklaces may seem bulky at first, they will help to provide a safe means for your infant to wear jewelry. Related information topics:
