Back to school shopping list

As a young parent, I am sure you are still relatively new to the whole sending your child to school ordeal. Not only is a parent required to keep their child dressing in style; within a practical reasoning for the school. But they are also asked to provide many of the materials that your child will need, throughout their educational career as a student. I have compiled a list of the items that are usually required by many schools. Keep in mind that although it is a good idea to keep your child prepared, it is also important to keep them clothed in expressive and weather related clothing. Why not save yourself a trip, and take your clothes shopping online?

Parents of children in elementary school will usually be required to provide the following

* Glue sticks (at a minimum of three years throughout elementary school)

* Blunt edged scissors for the young children, and pointed edge scissors for older children.

* Ball point pens or your more popular gel pens.

* No. Two pencils. Remember that you should keep things to the basics with this one, children around the age of five really don’t need to have fancy mechanical pencils.

* Colored pencils, again stick with the basics. Crayola offers several varieties in numerous retail stores, at a reasonable cost.

* Pencil sharpener: which should be a hand held variety that has a dome to collect the shavings.

* A large pink eraser. These ones tend to be the best, as the fancy brightly colored erasers tend to leave marks and don’t erase well.

* Box of crayons. Generally speaking, the box of crayons should grow with your child. IE: a sixteen pack for the younger child and a twenty four pack for your older children.

* Water based non toxic markers; Crayola has now become a leader with markers. They make fabulous water salable markers that allow for easy clean up on non-paper surfaces.

* Water color paints: don’t get too crazy with these, typically the average elementary child will only need the most basic of basic. IE: the small water color sets that come wrapped in plastic packaging.

* 4-oz or more bottle of white glue such as elmers.

* High lighters

* Notebooks: one of the best times to obtain these is in bulk when they are ten cents each. I would suggest purchasing a box or two, as your child will probably go through them rather quickly.

* 3 ring binder: no need to get fancy with these, I would suggest obtaining a three ring binder that has plastic film on the front, which allows your child to slip their own pictures into their binder to display.

* Construction paper: any old variety of construction paper will work, the quality is mostly the same but the prices vary.

* A ruler with English as well as the metric measurements.

* School box which is meant for storing supplies.

* Scotch tape

* Stapler or mini-stapler. This is for the older children only!

* Kleenex: for those sniffly noses that are bound to happen.

* Small bottle or travel sized bottle of hand sanatizer.

* The all mighty backpack, allow your child to express themselves through their choice of backpacks, however make sure that your child’s school permits that type of backpack. You should also make sure to choose a backpack that is sized properly for your child.
