Coed baby showerOnce you have taken on the responsibility of creating a baby shower, it is important to know the mother-to-be’s wishes. This of course can be something as simple as a color scheme, or a theme of the party; all the way down to whether or not she wants the opposite sex to attend this wonderful event. You may shy away from the idea as “taboo”, however it has become increasingly popular to throw a coed baby shower for the parents to be. One of the major reasons, is that fathers are now becoming more involved with their children’s lives, and many would like to join the celebration of fatherhood; just as much as an expectant woman to be a mother. Coed baby showers are considered to be more of a family celebration, rather than that of an up-tight girls only party; so that all members of the family can welcome the new little life into their family. (This of course will mean that you shouldn’t put a strong emphasis on the frillier things in life, such as doilies or even some of the cutesy games that are played at female-only parties. When you are sending out invitations for the coed baby bash, you may want to use more gender-neutral phrases that have a little flair to them. Things such as “ Diapers vs Adults” play very well into the scheme of things, rather than offering up pastel pink invitations to your more masculine of friends. If you have sports savvy men in your life, or the parents to be do; it is important to steer clear of any sports related days such as the Super bowl. Much like any other baby shower, the invitations should be sent out a minimum of three to four weeks in advance, allowing your party guests the time to adopt this party into their schedule. Remember when throwing a coed baby shower, it is imperative to steer clear of anything too over the top cutesy. Finding games that both men and women alike may enjoy playing, or even keeping it a low-key family get together at a local restaurant. However, if you insist on games; try to think of things that stimulate the mind as well as the body (keeping in mind the mother to be’s condition of course). Having a race with the men , to see who can diaper a doll fastest is always a fun option; giving them male-friendly prizes such as ties or a mug. Regardless of the genders attending your baby shower, you should always remember to sign up for a baby gift registry. Not only will this help the women attending find gifts that will be most suitable to your needs, but the men as well.
