Creative ways to make shopping easier with a childWhile most people don’t tend to associate a gothic, punk, or any other alternative parent as the shopping sort; all parents need to provide the necessities for their families. This of course would include, getting your shopping done however as you might have found it is a stressful time, that comes about at least once per month. However, if you are much like me I do my grocery shopping at least once per week. Simply due to necessity, and the lack of funds during certain times of the month. While this chore is mundane, and must be completed by nearly everyone in the world. Parents are faced with an even more difficult time, of course this will depend on the behavior of your children. Despite even the most well behaved children, the difficulty level of grocery shopping is increased by a minimum of at least ten fold with a child. Below I have compiled a list, of helpful tips for the shopping parent. These aren't going to work for every family, however they all have their points and places in every family group. *Fist and foremost, you need to remember that your child has limits. Be alert to their needs, whether they are hungry, tired, or over stimulated by the noise and confusion of being in a store. They may also just need a healthy dose of fresh air, and exercise? How about trying to reassure your child with a gentle hug? * Children are curious by nature, this is how they are able to learn about the world around them. If they reach to examine an item, do not scold them. Instead, help hold the item at a safe distance, so that it can be looked at but not touched. You may want to put a term to it such as " this is breakable", or "isn't this cover pretty?". It isn't always necessary to purchase the item, to allow your child to learn about it. * If you are shopping with a new infant, it is extremely helpful to have them fed, cleanly diapered, and rested before taking the trip. If you are planning on a long shopping spree remember to bring your diaper bag along, packed with enough snacks and drink to keep your child satisfied. If you are breast feeding it is helpful to know where the nearest nursing area is, you may try to scout these out during pregnancy. *If you are shopping with a toddler, you should try to get your toddler involved. Such as "which one of these tomatoes looks better?", which can help turn a boring and routine trip to the store into a fun game. *If you are shopping with older children, bring in a clipped paper add of the items you may need. Have the children help locate the item, once again getting them involved. * While in the checkout, you may find that the colorful, and enticing packages of candy and gum can become a challenge. This is where bringing a healthy snack from home will come into play, it allows you to keep your child's mind on something other than the brightly colored displays.
