Edgy baby clothing

Creating a unique and edgy gothic look for your infant or toddler’s wardrobe can be daunting to most parents. However, there is no need to scramble about in a worried mess; quite on the contrary. There are several retailers that have begun to offer alternative style clothing for the next generation, catering to a wider facet of parent and child. Whether you are a gothic, punk, or even a main stream parent who are looking for a little bit of edge in your child’s clothing you can find many items to choose from. Remember the key to any good outfit is the accessories that you pair with it; such as an edgy hoodie worn with jeans or baby-safe hair bows and jewelry.

The best suggestion that I can make is to take your own personal style and transferring it into your child’s wardrobe. Things such as band T-shirts and jeans lend themselves especially well to an infant’s alternative wardrobe, often times being seen as band onesies as opposed to tee’s; allowing you to get in that much needed edge without compromising necessity. The best place to find a retailer that caters to a more alternative style, is by taking your shopping online. This not only allows you to get your shopping done all in one stop, but will save you countless dollars on the gas that you would burn while driving around town, in search of the illusive alternative fashions.

Much like creating any wardrobe, it is important to look for quality clothing. While your child will outgrow his or her clothing rather quickly the first year or two, they are exceedingly hard on their clothing. For this reason I personally steer clear of mass-market retail stores that I may find around town, and instead focus on a smaller more personal shop online. I give my patronage to those who focus on the small details, right down to the small clasps that will keep the onesie from slipping upward during play time.

When people are trying to create a gothic look for themselves, some may stick with a monochromatic color scheme. While this may be fine with adults, wearing all black can be a bit daunting on an infant or toddler; not to mention the heat exposure during the summer months. For these reasons I would suggest adding a pop of color here or there, if you insist upon a black onesie try selecting one with a bold pattern in crimsons, blues, reds, or purples; which lend themselves well to the gothic subculture.

Lastly, when you are creating an alternative wardrobe for your child; you should allow older children to have a say in what they wear. It has been proven that the more time and consideration that is put in on your child’s part, the more likely they are to wear and enjoy their clothing. If you child chooses an outfit that simply doesn’t match, make another selection without being overtly pushy. Allow them to express themselves, as the gothic subculture is about acceptance in all things different.
