Gifts for new momsWhen it comes to gifts for a mom to be or a newly blessed mother, many people are generally confused as to what to get them. While there are the usual suspects such as onesies, t-shirts, jeans, and blanket for the infant; there are many more items that can be purchased and appreciated, that also have a slight unique twist to them. First and foremost you should get to know the mother to be (or new mother), and understand her personality, wants, and desires for her child. This will enable you to make an informed decision when it comes to gift giving.
During the earlier portion of my pregnancy I gave little thought of the gifts I wished to receive. However, after wandering through the aisles of the infant department at our local store; it had become blatantly clear how expensive this venture was going to be. I found myself hoping for a stockpile of diapers and wipes, in hopes that I could stave off a little of the up-front cost of an infant. Luckily, many people heeded this suggestion which enabled us to keep the stockpile going right up until the current months. This gift has been one of continual return, allowing us to save up for our home without worrying about the cost of diapers and wipes. While there is a chance that you may not use all of the diapers received, this is another great way to save a little money. If a close friend is expecting a child, transferring any un-used and un-opened packages of diapers is a lovely thought. If the mother is still in her mid-stage of pregnancy, another much appreciated gift is a body pillow. (Without one I would have been extremely uncomfortable) These pillows allow the mother to rest her weary stomach upon a light and fluffy cloud, and to get her much needed sleep for the night. Along these same lines, if the infant is soon to arrive you may opt to purchase a boppy pillow; which has been all the rave in motherhood since its invention. This momma’s helper has become a staple in our daily life with our daughter, and I could not imagine the tasks at hand without it. What is a boppy used for, you might ask? Well its true use is to aid in breast feeding, enabling the infant to rise up within reach of his or her’s mothers breast without them both straining for a good position; However the uses are endless with a boppy pillow, whether it be used in its traditional method or as a means to help baby sit up, or as a table to read upon once baby has grown out of it. Another appreciated gift is one that is strictly for the mother, a gift pack of lotions, eye creams, aroma therapy, a massage certificate, and even a day at the spa. These are all wonderful gifts that will allow the mother-to-be or new mother to relax while getting into the swing of things.
