How do online gift registries work?Just like any other gift registry at your local retail market, an online gift registry enables someone who is celebrating something special (IE: a baby shower, wedding, or any other important time in your life), however in this case we will focus on a baby shower gift registry. Generally speaking an expectant mother or father will select an online gift registry, and create an account. Remember, most legitimate gift registries are free to those who are signing up. After the parent or significant other has completed the account set up, it is time to begin to select items that you may need for your infant. Most parents will choose to select items such as toys for their child, clothing, layette sets, bath sets, as well as bigger items such as car seats. However, it is also a good idea to include things such as a large array of diaper sizes, wipes, and other necessities that can get pretty heavy on your new parent budget. Some online gift registries also allow your friends and family to send money to a store account in leu of gifts. This is especially nice, so that you are able to choose what you would like to purchase; and negates the mistake of double-up gifts.
Once you have completed your account, and have finished selecting the items that you would like to receive from your friends and family. You will then receive a link or a printable card, which will direct your guests to your online gift registry. It will then be in your guest’s hands at that point. They will scroll through the items that you have placed on the registry, and find the best fit to their budget. Once the item is purchased it can be shipped to them directly, or to the parent-to-be. However, some online companies may even opt to ship to the shower sight as well. There are many different companies, that offer different shipping methods. If you have not yet chosen the perfect place for your gift registry, it is important to select a place that gives you a wide variety of items; that you would like for your infant or the one that has the shipping method that fits your needs as well. While some companies who participate in online gift registries will offer gift wrapping, others may not. So this is also something else that you should take into consideration. While some of your guests may be fine with sending an un-wrapped gift, others may not be turned on by the idea and can go somewhere else; which means you may not get what you are looking for in the long run. Last but certainly not least, remember once you have received the gifts from your friends and family; or the money in an account. You should always send thank you cards to them, usually this can be taken care of right through an online gift registry; that is if you find the right one. Several online retailers now offer cards from the simple, to the more ornate for you to send to your guests.
