Keeping your child entertained on a budgetEven the most creative minds of the alternative parent, all parents are probably running thin on ideas of inexpensive means of keeping your children entertained. It is important to keep your child's mind constantly stimulated, not only does it teach them about the world. It also allows you to do chores, without having to worry about the trouble they are possibly getting into. With the economic strain that our country is in, it is becoming increasingly difficult for parents to provide fun activities for our children.
Depending on the age group of your child, there are several economic means to keep them entertained for hours on end. Below I have compiled a small list of items, that will have your child and your wallet happy. Some of the most tried and true methods, span over a number of years. These items would include: *Purchase a cheap tee shirt, and whip out the fabric paints; allowing them to get creative and express their own alternative style. *Bubbles (you can create your own, or purchase this at nearly any wholesale store) for ages anywhere from one month, all the way up until they are no longer interested. *Jump ropes for ages four and up. *Playing ball ( you can find large balls in nearly any Wal-mart for about ninety six cents) *Scribble pads, or creativity time (You may even want to just use left-over or scrap printer paper, and simply purchase some non-toxic mess-free crayons.) *Playing cashier (This requires only play money, you can purchase this at Wal-mart or break out the monopoly money.) *PlayDoh, this creative stuff allows your child to sculpt until their heart is content (can be purchased at the store, or you can make your own using the recipie I have included below) 1 c. flour Mix and knead the ingredients together, luckily this mixture should not dry out or be sticky if done properly. *Activity books, or story time. *Pails and shovels, simply give your child a pail and a couple of shovels to play in a designated area in the yard. Another option, would be to take your children to the park. This is by far the cheapest means of keeping your children entertained, as it is absolutely free. Pack some lunch and some drinks from home, that will turn this average trip to the park into a picnic. On the same out-doors theme, you may want to invest in an inexpensive wading pool. These can be purchased anywhere from five to fifteen dollars at Wal-mart stores world wide. However, they will provide hours of entertainment. This activity is appropriate for children of all ages, however younger children should always be supervised while in contact with any depth of water. Let your children have a camp out indoors, throw one of your band logo blankets over a couple of chairs to make a "tent".
