Keeping your child dressed properly for winter

As you might already know, the fall is fading fast; and winter is now upon us. From freezing winds and exceedingly cold temperatures, we all have to deal with the elements in some form or another. However while we are able to regulate our bodies temperatures as adults, infants and toddlers aren’t able to do so. For this reason it is of the utmost importance to make sure your child is dressed for the winter weather, to help prevent colds and other illnesses. While you might only be concerned about the flu bug or the common cold; you might not know that dressing your child in summer-like clothing during the winter months, can in fact have dire consequences. It can lead to very real, and very life threatening situations IE: pneumonia which is a concern for many parents.

However all of these illnesses can be prevented by dressing your child appropriately for winter. Many parents aren’t purchasing as many layers for their children, opting instead to rely on a single coat. While this might be alright for older children, it is of the utmost importance to dress infants and toddlers well throughout the season. If cost is a concern, you might opt to purchase your child’s winter wardrobe a season prior; which is when many retailers offer season close-out sales to the masses.

When looking for the perfect winter wardrobe for your infant, you might be confused as to what to get. Many stores still offer thin One pieces meant for summer, while others will bulk up their One pieces with thicker fabric; as well as long sleeves and turtle necks. The key to shopping for winter clothing for your child, is to think of what is the warmest for you. Select One pieces and shirts that have high necks, long sleeves, thicker fabric; you may even opt for thermal wear such as thermal pants and jackets. Along these lines you will also want to obtain some warm socks, gloves, and even some warmth-giving accessories such as scarfs and hats; which are commonly over-looked for infants.

Choose clothing that will envelop your child from head down to the tippy of their toes. This will help add an extra layer of protection from the coldness of winter. Also remember that you should keep your child properly clothed even inside a warm home. The doors of your house are opened frequently, and even though the thermostat might be up; you still need to protect your child from cold breezes that might come inside from an opening door.

In closure.. Don’t skimp on your child’s wardrobe this winter season! Regardless of finances, keeping your child safe and warm is the number one priority. Keep all things warm, soft, and snugly when it comes to dressing your infant for winter.
