Making a dress for your little girl out of new t-shirts

It is a normal fascination, to dress your daughter up in an adorable dress; whether you are a main stream parent, or an alternative parent it would seem that it is nearly irresistible to do. However, many parents need to keep a heavy eye on their budget; which can cause it to be nearly impossible to afford the expensive dresses that their child will grow out of in no time flat. For this reason, a T-shirt dress can cost next to nothing, and yet look just as pricy as a dress from the most expensive retailer. The best of all of this is that it is incredible easy to make and I will share with you today how to do so. All you truly need is an old T-shirt that is two to three sizes too big for your child. Typically you can find these t-shirts at any baby retailer, in many different shapes and styles. However, if you’d like to trim it with different fabric; you can find a t-shirt that would fit your daughter at the time of purchase. Keeping in mind the timing of when you wish your child to wear the dress. You will also need a little extra fabric, a tape measure, some scissors, an iron, a sewing machine or needle and thread. You can also opt to add some fun trim to the bottom of your child’s dress, and some buttons as well.

First comes first. You will cut the hem off the bottom of your child’s newly purchased t-shirt. Making sure to keep the edge as even as possible. You may wish to use an exacto knife and a ruler for this step. Next you will measure the length of the t-shirt, adding at least 1/4 of the amount to help make a skirt that can be gathered. However if you’d like a fuller skirt on your child’s dress, you will need to add more fabric. After which you will measure the length that you wish the skirt of the dress to be; obtaining this amount of fabric at your local fabric store.

Next you will need to cut your fabric to size and sew the base onto the bottom of your t-shirt. You will then hem the edges. If you’d like to add buttons sew in button-holes and add the buttons. After which you can be able to enjoy your daughter’s new dress in no time flat. These of course can make a wonderful means of creating a cohesive look for your portraits. Remember these tips next time you go on a shopping spree: buy a few extra t-shirts for your little girl to create something truly unique.
