Maternity portraits

Taking portraits of your pregnancy is a wonderful way to celebrate your child’s new life. It has become a tradition in many families, to keep tabs on the growing of the mother-to-be’s form; as her child makes its way into the world. It is a breath of fresh air, that the time of hiding the belly of a pregnant woman is long gone; now many women wear their pregnancy with pride, and wish to preserve this beautiful look.

Keep in mind that a maternity portrait session can be easily preformed either in your local studio; or at home if you have a local photographer willing to do so. There are many choices involved with getting your maternity photo-session completed; such as whether or not you will be posing alone in your pregnant glory, or if your family will be joining you. You may be asking yourself “When should I get this portrait done? Well, while some mothers choose to get a portrait done once every trimester; maternity portraits are usually done during the eighth month. This is simply because your belly will be quite noticeable and beautiful, rather than a slight bump of pregnancy. It will allow your photographer to seize the fullness of your pregnancy within the portrait, rather than during the first trimester; which will make little sense as a pregnancy portrait.

Once you have selected the right photographer for you, it is then time to decide on the coloration. Whether it be in color, black and white, or sepia; it will be your choice in the end. Remember, the quality of the photograph will depend mostly on lighting, rather than the coloration of your portrait. While many women opt for a more dramatic sepia or black and white; there is nothing saying that you couldn’t get a brilliant photograph from colored film. After that is settled, you will need to choose what you will want to wear. Remember, there isn’t anything really that is too “weird” for a pregnancy portrait; there is only one requirement ( your belly must be accented nicely in the clothes).

During the photographer session, you will probably be placed in the normal side pose. This is simply so that you will be able to show the fullness of your belly easily. Most photographers will also use spot lighting, to highlight both your stomach and your face; so that they can capture the pregnancy glow that every mother carries.
