One piece, creepers, rompers: What's the difference?We all have seen them rompers, One pieces, creepers, and body suits; but most people have the misconception that they are all one in the same. While it is quite the contrary; these beloved infant clothing articles all have some very big differences in appearance and function. While a romper is still a one piece garment, that is worn primarily by infants and young toddlers, One pieces may appropriate for older toddlers as well.
Rompers can be traced back to the early nineteenth century, however their popularity didn’t peak until the late nineteen fifties; when they were used as play wear for children and sometimes women as leisure and beach wear. However, there after it was only continued for infants and toddlers to wear as the demand for older girls and women faded. The romper is reminiscent of the Victorian era, with a frilly bottom that is shaped much like bloomers and covers the diaper. While a one piece or “one size” is a body suit designed to conceal a diaper when worn. It is commonly also known as a creeper, a diaper shirt, or even a snap suit. Usually the shirt will extend past the waist, lined with buttons or snaps that allow it to be closed over the crotch; all while allowing for enough room for a diaper. They are often used instead of t-shirts for infants, because they don’t have to be tucked into pants as frequently. However, while they are considered One pieces as well; a creeper is also its own separate entity. Usually creepers have legs that extend to the knees, and snaps that run from the crotch to the end of the leg. Allowing for a larger area that is covered by the fabric; and negating the need to slip on some jeans over the one piece that your infant or toddler is wearing. These are frequently worn by infants in leu of shirts, because they have the enate ability to stay down without the aid of pants. A body suit however, can extend over the entire body of the infant. The body suits are particularly well suited for sleep, as they are often times very snug fitting and warm. Whichever your choice is, you will find that your infant will love roaming about in these adorable infant staples.
