Now that I have your attention, in this article we will focus on creating that funky-fun pirate theme in your child’s bedroom. You have a girl, you say? Firstly, lets go over your choices for bedding, as you might know there are plenty of comforters, sheets, and pillow case sets that pay tribute to the Pirates of the Caribbean. However, if you are looking to get a more unique feel to your child’s room, I would suggest finding separates for your child’s bed, and room decor. As any pirate love should know, there are a few elements that are mandatory for this theme. Such as, the Jolly Roger (Skull and crossbones, and the pirate flag), the booty (gold, chests, or X marks the spot), and last but certainly not least the Furner (or, the captains own ship). You are of course, not limited to these selections as there are several things that scream pirate. However, if your design is lacking in any of these three things the eye will surely notice. One way to implement a couple of these items, is by selecting your bedding. Often times, I would suggest a solid-color fitted sheet, or a design that resembles that of the oceans waves. Colors ranging from blues, sea-moss green, white, and blacks make an excellent back-drop for the comforter and pillow case. If your room is being designed for a girl, you may want to think in a more feminine pallet, such as pinks, reds and deep purples. While, obtaining a “girly” version of the Jolly roger, which is normally accompanied with a bow affixed on the skull. Now that you have your backdrop complete, nothing is better than when you can find a traditional map which has been embedded within a comforter form. However, you may only be able to find a furner comforter which is also acceptable. Now that you have the backdrop, and comforting elements now its time to talk about the pillow cases, which is a wonderful spot to implement the Jolly roger, as the pillows are generally shaped like a flag, and will allow you to tie the elements together. You are probably thinking now, what else could I possibly have to say? Well although this will complete a theme to some parents I definitely enjoy your more “over the top” designs. Using your own creativity with a second-hand lamp you can create a wonderful design by using a little imagination and five dollars worth of shells, and fabric from your local craft store. However, if you are the type that just wants to purchase, and place there is nothing wrong with that either. Throwing a splash of pirate-theme throughout the room will aide in the over-all appearance , from framed maps to having pre-made pirate ships placed upon floating shelves. If you are more of the creative types, you can always opt for a mural, or offering your little one a place to have a little creative outlet. Many hardware stores offer a large variety colored chalk board paint. This, is a way for you to allow your little one to add their own design flair into the room without being committed.
