Planning baby's first birthday party

The first year of parenting can often times be emotionally taxing, confusing, and down right exhausting. However, that exhaustion doesn’t need to lead into planning your child’s first birthday party! While many parents tend to go over-board with their children’s first birthday, they often times will end up with little but a headache after it all. Despite all this, there are a few steps to take to make sure your party-planning doesn’t exhaust you in the end; and will enable you to enjoy a little much-needed relaxation and fun time with your soon-to-be one year old. In this easy-to-follow step by step guide, you will find it is easier to get things accomplished before the big day!

1. First and foremost you should think of a theme for your child’s birthday party. While it doesn’t need to be extremely fancy, it is still nice to bring in a little bit of your child’s personality into the mix. Generally speaking, around this age a child will begin to form his or her own opinions on things. While one child might enjoy unicorns and dragons, another might enjoy trucks and bikes. Focus on something that seems particularly interesting to your child. Whether it be a favorite book, the theme of his or her room, or even a hobby that they enjoy doing. Once you have your theme, make sure to write down a few ideas that surround this idea. If your child is into fantasy related things you may want to write things such as:

* Unicorn
* Dragon
* Fairy
* Troll

Which will help you to determine the direction in which your party’s theme should move to. Allowing your child some input in what you include.

2. Write down a list of friends and family of whom you’d like to join you in this celebration. Keeping in mind that it isn’t necessary to invite everyone from work. Typically during this first birthday party, you should only invite a few friends and family; as your child will probably end up tired and cranky if he or she is passed around to fifty different arms. All children who are invited should be accompanied by their parents, or a responsible adult; you don’t need to baby sit on your child’s big day.

3. Think of the best time for you and your family to have this party. Not only the day that would work the best of your own family and your guests, but planning around nap time is crucial. Nothing is worse than a nap-deprived one year old on his or her birthday! You can expect the party to last anywhere from a half hour to one and a half hours, depending on your events. However you should always limit the time to a maximum of one and a half hours maybe two, so that your child doesn’t have an overly exciting day for this first birthday party.

4. Where should you hold your party? Generally speaking; for the first year of your child’s life, you can save a lot of money by holding the party in your own home. However, it is becoming increasingly popular to hold birthday parties at special places such as the zoo, a farm, or even at a theme park that is packed wall-to-wall with fun for your child. However, this isn’t quite as necessary for a child of this age. Rather, save these kinds of birthdays for a later year when he or she is more likely to appreciate and enjoy it!
