The best time to do exercise is after your child is well rested, fed, and freshly diapered; and is particularly so during their normal play time. You may also wish to do the baby massage techniques right before their nap or bed time, as with any massage when properly done can be very relaxing. To aid in the fun atmosphere during the exercise, put on some up tempo music that both you, and your child can enjoy. However during the massage, I would suggest placing on a more mellow tune on your ipod or cd player; such as a lullaby cd that was purchased for your child. This along with some lavender scented lotion may help lull your child off to dream land, in a much easier fashion than you are use to. I know that while my daughter was very young, we practiced the baby massages every night; paying extra care to her feet and hands and she would lull herself off to sleep in no time. After doing this routine I found that our nights had become longer, and she was able to sleep far sounder than previously. Lastly, remember to keep your child involved as this will help keep him or her entertained. For older children you may want to invest in purchasing something fun like matching band logo tees, to help them feel as though they are a part of a “team”. This is exceedingly fun while children are around the ages of one and a half to two years.
