Time management for new parentsGone are the days, that you could take off to the local goth club at a whim. However, there are some means to get a little freedom back into your life. Its time to take a deep breath, and think about some time management. Most of us parents are far busier, than we have ever been before. Do you feel yourself spinning out of control? Do you have too many things to do, and not enough time to get it all accomplished? Well, you aren't alone; and I intend to give you a few tricks of the trade, that should help you manage your time more wisely.
* Firstly, you will need to figure out your priorities. The time frustration often times occurs when; a parent spends too much time on meager activities that aren't of importance. This of course stimulates a sense of stress, and thoughts that the important things that you needed to accomplish are going neglected. However, only you can determine the goals, and activities that are the most important in your daily life. Take some time to sit down, and jot down a list of the things you wish to get done. You will prioritize these by using a number system from one to ten things, that you wish to accomplish in that day. * Say no! You will need to practice this, if it isn't one of your already practiced behaviors. One of the curses of being a parent, is having to say no to some of the things. Otherwise, your goals for that day could be compromised. This once more will take some thought, whether or not what was asked is relevant to the situation that your time is in that day. * Seek out the balance: Generally your time isn't best managed under the pressures of time. Instead, you should select a balance of simplicity of your daily life. This in turn will help you accomplish your daily goals without becoming frazzled. Chances are, if you try to put a time constraint on everything that needs to be accomplished you will burn out. Take some time in between, and relax- treat yourself for a job well done! * Make a plan and then take it into action: Once you have your priorities straight, it is now time to formulate the plan of execution. You should have pruned out all of the unnecessary activities from your schedule, and be left with only the important things on your list. It is time now to pull out the calendars, or notebooks to create a plan. You will need to write down your long term goals, and your to do lists out on either , or both. I would suggest writing your long term goals in a planner vs the calendar, as calendars tend to get cluttered. I would place only your short term goals on the calendars. Now that you are set, you should be able to get everything accomplished, as long as you have kept your list within reason. Remember, that even if some of your goals are not accomplished on time; it is not typically a negative thing. There are plenty of days in the month to accomplish anything you set your mind to, a days tardiness for things such as household chores will not do much harm.
