Who is really the Boss? Dress your baby how YOU wantAll too often, when a baby is born, there are a number of outside influences that quickly become overbearing and controlling. These usually consist of the in-laws and personal family members of the Mother or the Father. It is always worse if you are a single parent, as everyone seems to think that you are not capable of successfully raising your child. This is also the case of the extremely young parent, usually nineteen years old or younger. How do you resume control of your life and your child's’ once this process begins? It’s simple, you take a stand and show them that this is your child and he or she will be raised in the manner in which YOU decide, and no one else. One often-encountered issue is the clothing that you dress the child in. Though this interfering individual believes that they know how your child should be dressed, this is strictly that individual’s opinion. The often-quoted saying, “Opinions are like butts, everyone has one and they usually stink,” comes to mind. Though it might cause uproar, this is a great manner in which to show your authority and to give your child individuality. These people will no doubt want your baby to wear what every other baby in the world is wearing, pink, blue and white clothing. Try something different. Show up with your baby wearing a punk themed T-shirt. Something black with a hot pop culture band on it, such as the Ramones, or a clever saying like, “Ask me if I care.” Not only will this allow your child to grow up knowing it's okay to be different then the rest of the crowd, but these interfering people will raise a real stink about it. When they do, show up the next time with something more extreme. As time goes on, you will end up having to tell them that this is your child and their presence in the child's life is something that you tolerate, not something that is necessary. Tell them that they are welcome to stay and bite their tongues or mouth off and hit the road. Assert your authority and give your child an edge of individuality.
